This is a time for women’s careers to excel, writes Peter Watson.
The opportunity for women to have success has never looked better.
Women are most often caregivers for both children and aging parents. In many cases, that has stopped or hindered their career.
Jobs of the past followed a pattern. Commute to work, put in a full day and return home. Add extra duties, for example childcare, and for many women working was not feasible.
That was then. But now is different. Things have changed since Covid and working remotely for many occupations is a possibility.
Schedules are more flexible. The goal is not to sit in an office between the hours of nine-to-five. Just get the work done.
A mother can walk her child to school and return home to focus on her job. Women can set up a home office with the computer, printer and can work and eliminate the need to commute.
A sudden call to her child’s school does not pose a problem. You’ll likely be able to return to work in an hour or two. This modern work environment requires flexibility and the ability to multitask.
That plays to the strength of women. Many women’s past roles have relied on a heavy amount of flexibility and multitasking.
If a woman cannot carve out a modern-day existence with her employer, she could start her own business. More and more women are doing this.
Women want to control their work-life balance, not only in the amount of work they do, but when and where that work is completed.
Women are bright, educated with strong abilities and our new world of flexible work hours, plus working remotely possibilities, opens the doors of opportunity for women.
March 8 is International Women’s Day. It is time for men and women to celebrate the current work environment that provides women the perfect platform to excel and prosper.
