Canadian manufacturing reputation grows as Europe seeks trade partners

Peter Watson explains why Canada’s reputation, natural resources, and educated workforce position is to attract global business interest as Europe seeks alternatives to its trade relationships with the U.S.

This has turned out to be a great opportunity for Canada. In a quickly changing world, we must just keep doing what we have been doing.

Success is in our future.

Part of our future success will be built on the international reputation of our people. This is working to our advantage.

Carney said the world order had changed, and even though the U.S. was not named, the world knew what he meant. Most countries are hurt by U.S. tariffs, often with changing terms, and are uneasy about its many acts of military aggression.

That speech has often been referred to by many heads of state around the globe in glowing terms. We are suddenly a country that has been elevated.

Our strengths are many, including an abundance of natural resources. We have a strong, educated workforce, which is important in today’s world.

We have respect and trust.

I recently attended a Chamber of Commerce event in Oakville, themed on Ontario manufacturing. Some interesting European feedback was revealed: Europe wants to shift U.S. contacts to Canadian firms.

The stars have aligned. We have what it takes: resources, talent, a strong reputation, and trust. Now it’s just a matter of working hard and with intelligence.

Our country has a strong future to capture.
